About Lipote Fruit(Szygium curranii)

Syzygium curranii (Lipote) is a tree growing up to 15 metres tall. The bole can be up to 30cm in diameter.The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and source of wood. It is also occasionally cultivated in the Philippines, and in South America, for its edible fruit The fruits are borne in compact clusters, each fruit is about 20mm in diameter and would become darker as it ripen. The ripest is black or very dark in color and has a rather dry but of pleasant acid flavor. It is eaten ripe and raw.
